Level Up Log June 2026
Wow! This month was huge for this usually silent blog: four posts! That’s quite an achievement (irony inside).
Another poject has died
I’ve mentioned the
UnfinishedProjects
forum and wiki several times here. Today, I’m sad to say that I no longer know whether this project is finished or unfinished, but it’s definitely closed. Trying to build a collaborative community around values from a bygone era turned out to be more than three random dudes could sustain.
Even so, I’m glad I was part of it. I learned a lot along the way, and I got to meet a genuinely nice guy.
Neovim revamp
With the major changes introduced in Neovim 0.11 and 0.12, I thought it was the perfect time to revisit my entire configuration. Clean things up, look for improvements that better match my ever-evolving workflow, rethink how my plugins interact with one another…
Through the process, I discovered some lesser-known
config tips
and hugely improved how my small
dev corner
is installing and maintaining tools.
Home Assistant
While I already had a thermostat, I had the oportunity to get a Honeywell T5 for $6 (brand new). A good excuse to play with Home Assistant again and get one more thing under my power :) The only downsides of this specific hardware are that you have to create an account (thank you temp emails) and - if your Home Assistant is on a wireless connection - it can’t be connected to your guest network and your dual band network has to use the exact same SSIDs.
I don’t see anything remaining to be controlled by Home Assistant. I need a bigger house.
As mentioned erlier, I may talk more about Home Assistant. It’s another nice rabbit hole. This month, I’ve also played with one of my ESP-32 that controls a led strip to apply some cool (in my opinion) candle-like effects.
