Level Up Log January 2026

Published on

My small learnings
in January 2026

This is the first post of the new Level Up Log section and it’s late… I was so excited with this idea that I had to post it, sorry.

This month has been a whirlwind of refinements and exciting new additions to my digital workspace. It’s been a blend of aesthetic overhaul and powerful tool integration, focusing on my blog’s presentation and my Neovim workflow.

A fresh coat of paint for the blog

I’ve finally get the motivation to rework the blog’s CSS, including a change in color theme. I decided the old look was a little bit aggressive to the eyes. Hopefully the change feels right.
In the backstage, it was also a significant cleanup of the CSS. The real gamechanger was the use of variables to dynamically adjust parameters based on the active theme without needing separate CSS rules for light and dark modes (e.g. –text_fg: light-dark(#FFF, #DDD)).

Sometimes, you just need to find something specific without navigating a labyrinth of links. Enter the new search bar. It’s a small addition that makes a huge difference in how easily you can access the information you’re looking for, reinforcing the principle of efficient information retrieval that I constantly strive for in my own workflows. I went the simple path on this one and opted for pagefind .

A new file picker for Neovim

When not using the commandline to browser/manipulate my files, I use Yazi . This month, I’ve eventually decided to also rely on Yazi as my Neovim file picker. This plugin made yazi’s implementation in Neovim seamlessly. I’m pleased to welcome it in my []plugins’ family](/blog/neovim-plugins/) :)

Neovim, now with nulti cursors

My journey with Neovim is an ongoing quest for the most efficient and ergonomic text editing experience. I’ve covered many aspects of my setup, from basic configuration to essential keybindings and even plugins that simplify code completion or catch errors. This month, I’ve integrated visual-multi , a plugin that brings powerful multi-cursor capabilities to my favorite editor. It allows for the creation and management of multiple cursors and selections, making repetitive tasks a breeze - in addition to visual block mode and maros.

Jumping into git

I’ve always considered my small codeberg repo to be a dirty storage for the useless things I share with the community. Some discussions with Mastodon fellows convinced me that it should nonetheless get more love. So, I’ve decided to fake being a dev or a real repo user and joined the git cult. You know me, I had to make this tool part of my workflow. Amongst the available options, I went with neogit for Neovim.

January 2026 in brief

These recent updates, from the subtle visual refresh of the blog to the deeper chnages in my daily workflow, participate to my constant pursuit of efficiency, control, and a tailored user experience that makes every interaction feel like an extension of thought rather than a tedious task.
I’m glad to have learned so much this month.
